The transformation of this space started with addressing the layout. 

A layout with intention

I believe when a bathroom layout is designed with intention it begins an effortless movement towards achieving the feeling of an at home day spa. 

Here, the exiting long, narrow under-utilised space was reimagined into a private, spa-like retreat that aligned with the home’s standard and supported the needs of the owner couple.

First a stud wall was constructed and an aluminium arched door with privacy glass was placed in the centre to conceal the ensuite from the walk-in wardrobe – providing privacy and in turn creating more storage space for the walk-in wardrobe. 

Cohesive flow

I enjoyed how the current walk-in wardrobe was a continuation of the bedroom, however I wanted to ensure the flow from each space was cohesive. 

The door to access the bathroom was placed in the centre to allow the progression from each side of the walk-in wardrobe. 

Shapes, materials, finishes

Consistency through each of the zones was incorporated through intentional shapes, material selection and finish application. 

The master bedroom features limed oak, which is replicated within the tall wardrobe joinery. 

An island bench in the wardrobe was added for additional storage. 

The material application to the island is a micro-cement finish which can be found on both sides of the wall entering the ensuite, as well as on both vanity units. 

Organic aesthetic

Featured throughout are soft curves and bullnose edges which tie together the custom details and make the space feel organic.

Texture and tone played a crucial role in achieving the 'day spa' feel the homeowners desired. 

A palette of neutral warmth and tactile finishes has been used with the travertine tile and the use of micro-cement.

 Soft lighting and careful layering of materials bring depth and serenity to the room.

Framing a focal point

The first intentionally contrasting detail was the custom aluminium shower screen framing the round bath focal point in the centre of the room. 

This shape replicates the arch door into the ensuite. 

Black has been added within each zone to tie together the existing windows.

The creation is a functional, calming and luxurious environment, that now reflects the owners' lifestyle.
