Owners' brief

• A fun family bathroom for the children to use, with a large shower area 

What we achieved

• Dividing walls between the bathroom, toilet and laundry were removed to allow for a larger bathroom and a laundry with a better layout.
• A large wet room was created so a freestanding bath could be displayed inside the shower area and the three young children could have as much fun as they like without water escaping. 
• Large double glass doors were added allowing for the area to feel very open when the bath is used – the doors continued to the ceiling to help contain steam inside the area – the contained steam was extracted with dual extractor fans with plastered in ceiling outlets. 

• A Bluetooth speaker was added inside the wet area to allow for music to be played during bath / shower time.
• The 6 x function thermotic shower mixers allowed for the inclusion of: 2 x flush mounted rain shower heads built into the ceiling, 2 x wave body jets, a waterfall shower head positioned high on the wall and a traditional slide shower.
• The mint green concrete bath and herringbone tiles were selected to create a fun atmosphere.
• Oak bathroom furniture and light grey tiles were selected to create connection as they were used elsewhere in the house.
• Three vertical heated towel poles were selected to make it easy for the three young children to hang up their towels.

Issues overcome

• The shower drain had to be custom made and run continuously from wall to wall and couldn’t be ordered until the wall tiles were installed and an exact measurement could be taken – this put a lot of pressure on the fabricator of the drain and the floor tiling couldn’t be completed until this was manufactured and installed.
• Due to the large amount of water volume required, all of the pipework had to be upgraded from standard 15mm diameter pipework to 28mm allowing for four times the water volume to pass through.
• At the time of construction it was realised there was a void between the bathroom and the bedroom – to take advantage of this space, three large recessed shelves were added lining up with tiles joins / grout lines – small LED lights were added to the ornament shelves.
