Marble and brass
For this bathroom by professional designer Melanie Craig, using both large and small-format Carrara tilework creates a fabulous light-filled ambience with a distinct touch of class

From the designer:
• The owner's requirements for this bathroom renovation was to gain a much larger shower space that didn’t feel dark and closed off from the rest of the bathroom.
• They wanted to have a luxurious bathroom that was light and spacious with double vanity bowls.
• The bathroom design was detailed with touches of brass around the custom mirrors and vanity negatives, to create that luxury feel while remaining light and fresh.

• While trying to keep the design feeling clean and simple without lacking interest, we specified a lantern mosaic in the same Carrara pattern as the walls and tub surround to further give the bathroom the required detailing aesthetic without it overpowering the space
• A challenge with this project was trying to find a mirror that was big enough for the space and that had a softer, rounder appearance. The owners didn’t like the idea of having two completely separate mirrors.
• As a result, the custom mirror we finally chose for the design is the wow fact that sets this bathroom apart from all the others in the home. The beautiful brass frame wraps around the mirrors with the smaller mirror sitting in front creating a uniform mirror design.

• Designing the custom vanity had its challenges, too. We created a flowing, seamless look for the basins and tops, but this required carefully choosing of the materials and product. To get the right result, we had to make a special order.
• The design of the shower space required borrowing space from the adjacent room – by only pushing half of the shower over we were able to make a wall partition to create a sense of privacy for the toilet and provide somewhere for the toilet roll holder to live.
• The tapware was designed to keep the tops clear and easy to wipe down. The taps are finished in a brushed stainless steel to help disguise fingerprints and water marks while at the same time not detracting from the stunning brass details.
