Food, family, fashion and fanfare

Owner brief
- Our modern Australian / Greek heritage homeowners – whose very existence stem from strong family bonds and the important values of entertaining around food and food preparation – were the catalyst for many of the design decisions and direction taken to deliver this stunning design
- There was a conscientious call to action for family physical & emotional connectivity from the parents for their 3 x teenage children, to be in and out of the kitchen space at various times of the day and night to suit the ever-changing schedules of young adolescence & family dynamics
- Strategic placement of practical tasks and delegated areas for parents and children
- Welcoming space for children to entertain friends

- White on white walls to showcase the colourful art.
- His & hers WIRs

- The hot desking on the study nook in the front room vs dedicated study/guest room
- 4 bedrooms + study/guest room
- Stand out powder room
- Master ensuite – feeling of luxury and privacy
- Large family kitchen + separate butler’s pantry for prep and everyday cooking.
- Access to laundry for ease of household chores & doggy escape door for the family pet to come and go freely.
- Ambient feeling of family coming together (specifically the custom designed organic shaped 10-seater dining table – intended not to have a head of the table so all family members or guests are seen as equal)
Challenges
During the early stages of planning, it was apparent that the interior layout provided was not matching the owners’ requirements
We were engaged to take over where the homeowners' architect left off.
There were several areas of concern that needed to be addressed surrounding spatial planning and the flow of design.
We made changes to almost every room layout and detailed every improvement to fulfil the owners’ desires.
So much so that they have decided when they build next time they will start with an interior designer and work from the inside out opposed to starting with an architect!
