We were engaged to redesign the entire master suite. This comprises the master bedroom, an ensuite, walk-in robes and a reading nook. Our homeowners are a married couple with adult children. They wanted the master suite to be a retreat, a haven, a separate space to the rest of the home for them to relax in. The master bedroom was to be inviting, the master ensuite a luxurious day-spa, the WIR functional and spacious and finally the reading nook was to be a space just for them. Prior to our creative touch, the master suite was fragmented and dysfunctional. By removing all the internal walls, as well as discovering an unused cavity in the garage behind, we created an open-plan space with functionality and purpose. The ensuite was relocated and doubled in size while the bedroom was tucked away on the back wall, giving privacy. As a result, the walk-in robe became accessible and now provides great flow for the owners. Customised banquette seating was incorporated in the reading nook, which also doubles as a dressing room thanks to the nearby luxurious walk-in robe. The latter is fully fitted out with pull-down robe lifts and shoe drawers, using every inch of space available. In the ensuite, we created two zones: the dry zone including the vanity and dressing space, a place to do hair and makeup; and then the wet-zone with double shower and freestanding bath.To emphasise the American Plantation style while also considering sustainable selections, we specified wall-to-wall textured sisal carpet. The materiality and joinery flowed between the spaces well, in particular between the robes and the ensuite – plenty of walnut timbers, rattan, and gorgeous Norwegian Rose marble is featured.
