Out of the past
A 1970s-inspired bathroom featuring custom stained oak cabinetry, wall-to-wall mosaic tiles, picture windows, and earthen tones led by an array of the owners' collected earthen pots and porcelain pieces

From the designer:
Wider setting
The brief for this distinctly 1970s period home was to pay homage to the sense of place – to create a space that was interesting, crafted, curated and warm.
The home was to showcase a number of collected artifacts and also respond to the exterior surroundings which was uniquely a backdrop of mature deep green bamboo.
We borrowed a palette of materials from a bygone era and put them together in a way that felt contemporary yet as if they could have always been there.
Colours and finishes were inspired by a number of items that the owner had collected, including earthen pots and porcelain pieces.
Jointed timber cabinetry a stand-out
This guided design choices from the tile and warm timber to the crafted aesthetic of the beautifully jointed timber cabinetry.
1970s aesthetic
In keeping with a 1970s aesthetic, a mosaic tile was selected for the bathroom walls while solid oak was custom stained as a nod to the original home.
Picture windows allowed the wet room areas to bleed into the outdoors and invite the unique hue of the green bamboo indoors to complement the beautiful sage green of the mosaic tile.
