Natural attraction
A material focus on wood and stone gives this master bathroom a natural air in keeping with the rest of the beachside home
Seaside homes lend themselves to a material palette that celebrates nature. Not only is this appropriate, it is practical too elements such as honed limestone stand up well to salt air and are easy to maintain.
Builder and designer of this master bathroom Andrew Johnston says using travertine limestone on the walls and floor continues an emphasis on this material, which is found throughout the house.

"Our concept was to create a relaxed feel for the space we aimed for a modern, upmarket take on a classic, relaxed seaside home," says Johnston.
"In terms of the bathroom's general layout, I wanted the freestanding tub centred under the window for maximum visual effect," he says.
The bathroom shares the generous proportions of the rest of the home particularly in terms of stud height. Both the shower stall and vanity mirror are designed as tall vertical elements that draw the eye up through the lofty space they are the same height as the bathroom window. The mirror's reflective quality and the transparent shower stall also extend the feeling of space.
