The brief

This busy Auckland family value art, quality furniture and have exceptional personal style. 

The renovation was to have a modern international aesthetic with art and classic furniture, intelligent custom designs sourced locally and internationally, and also luxury fixtures and materiality – all while nailing functionality and staying within budget.

This requested design ethos is delivered within the master suite floor plan, reconfigured to allow a luxury His and Hers spaces. 

The walk around robes are layered with metal framed fronts, tinted glass doors, and Piet Boon handles – a Hers floating powder station also features. 

The beauty of the robe is enhanced by thoughtful internal LED and angled down lighting, all framing a view to the sea. 

The new bed position gives full view to the taonga that is Rangitoto and beautiful Milford Beach.

The ensuite is lifted from the existing dark brown mosaic tiles to now showcase an eccentric tile application. 

Carefully selected natural stones are configured into a geometric story, flowing from entry along the floor into the His & Hers shower which is situated along the full width of the back wall. 

The custom tile pattern continues up the shower wall giving further display to the Macubus, Calacatta and Nero Maquina marbles – a piece of functional art.

Continuing the design language

A custom vanity continues the design language with core fluted tip on drawer fronts painted Aalto Interim. 

Encased by the cloudy tones of the Bianco Storm marble tiled walls, the functionality and creativity of the space exceeded the family's brief and vision.

The modern curation and personal sophistication of this beach front design challenged what was expected. 

This bathroom explores the edges of style within a limited budget, offering comfort, functionality and purpose as per brief – delivering a home of original style.
