It was important to remain sympathetic to the Queenslander style while ensuring a classic and timeless look – drawing inspiration from the Hampton and Plantation styles. The homeowners were dissatisfied with the existing kitchen, outside decking/entertainment areas and lack of natural light. The existing interior spaces required modernising – as the existing low ceilings and closed interiors meant dark, small spaces that were was not functional for a growing family who liked to entertain. Design solutionThe design team developed a solution which successfully combines features of the Hampton and Plantation styles with the existing Queenslander home to create a classic and timeless home. Extending the rear, raising the roof line and ceiling height, and adding more windows in the living areas all allowed more light to flow into the home. Redesigning the kitchen for informal and formal dining options, adding plenty of kitchen storage space, and flowing the design to the larger decking area with an outdoor kitchen means the family can effortlessly entertain in comfort. In addition, the home has an improved connection to the beautiful outside vista and pool. Design outcomeThis project is an example of how renovating can achieve a successful cohesive result while being sympathetic to the existing style of a home.
