Earthy bathroom reaches for the sky
Undulating floor and walls tiles with subtle colour variation contribute to this bathroom's organic feel – a skylight is high overhead
Designed by Candice Van Dyk, Mooi Design
From the designer:
Mooi was invited to be involved in a large-scale renovation in the heart of Merivale, Christchurch.
The selections were directed by the rest of the interior which embraces natural tones, earthy textures, brushed metals, and strong forms.
Crucial to the project’s success was creating a striking interior that balances a contemporary design approach with the introduction of timeless elements.

The bath was the first item selected and its organic shape and matt surface directed the tile selection.
Undulating floor and walls tiles with subtle colour variation contribute to the organic design direction – without having to use a natural stone product.
We accentuated the height of the wall being the bath by laying this in gloss white finger tile mosaics.
This wall extends over 5m high and reaches a skylight which allow natural light to filter through the bathroom.
Brushed Gunmetal tapware was specified which complements the tones of the tiles, while providing a touch of depth and a contemporary flair.
The natural timber veneer vanity with fluted fronts blurs the line between bathroomware and joinery.
The basin selection mimics the shape of the bath, providing continuity to the design
