Dark bather
This moody, TIDA Highly Commended bathroom could well be popular with the Star Wars' trilogy's famous antihero. Designer Davinia Sutton explains some of the atmospheric bathroom's features

From the designer:
"Our clients wanted to achieve a spacious feel for the guest ensuite, despite its confined space, which is positioned centrally within the home. They wanted the design to reflect the modern architecture of the home but also offer a private sanctuary for their guests. They requested a design with a wow factor, modern surfaces and attractive fittings and fixtures."

In response, Sutton created a moody space with contemporary, stand-out presence, while the layout incorporates a practical and private shower zone – the perfect place for guests to restore and refresh.
"The custom-made natural stone vanity top with hidden shelf detail for guests bathroom product, forms a solid juxtaposition for the feature glass ‘Moon’ vanity bowl, positioned as an art piece," says the designer.
"This adds a wow factor and sharp contrast to the dark moodiness of the background walls. The bespoke vanity top and mirror, running from wall to wall, provides ample storage and functionality.
"The expanse of dark grey wall tiles that clad the entire bathroom, provides the room with a sense of contemporary serenity and modern form."
"The mosaic tiled surfaces add a punch to the vanity and shower areas, through a dramatic contrast of form and texture," says Sutton. "While the design utilises all the available space, the clever mix of selected finishes and fixtures provides the room with a sense of sophistication and spaciousness."
Careful use of lighting detail – from the position of the skylight running the length of the space to the hidden light detail in the shower recess, highlights the volume of the space and plays on the moodiness of the dark palette, further enhancing the atmospheric design.
