Here, a bathroom renovation maximises space and light with a new layout, skylight, and calming coastal colours

Designed by Nathalie Scipioni Architects

Working with a modest-sized space

The existing bathroom faced challenges with functionality, limited shower space, and poor natural light.

The original layout, with the toilet centrally positioned, had made the space feel cramped.

To address this, we swapped the toilet and shower, allowing for better access and a larger, more comfortable shower area.

Storage was improved by installing a larger vanity with built-in storage and adding a mirrored cabinet with internal storage, achieving our goal of maximising functionality without taking up extra space.

To brighten the bathroom and create a sense of openness, we added a skylight, transforming the previously dark area into a light-filled, inviting space.

Layout and connections

The layout was  designed to create a seamless flow between the apartment's spaces.

Inspired by the stunning city views, we used a palette of light, soothing tones to evoke a calm, coastal atmosphere.

We maintained this colour palette throughout each room to visually connect the adjacent areas, ensuring smooth transitions between rooms.

Material selection

We always aim to incorporate individual materials that add character and elevate the overall aesthetic.

For this project, we suggested brass fixtures to the homeowner, such as the shower head and tap above the vanity.

These not only stand out as an elegant and unconventional choice but also harmonise beautifully with the timber floors and features throughout the home.

Use of colour

The aim was to transform the bathroom from a dark, cramped space into a bright, inviting area that reflects the coastal atmosphere present throughout the apartment.

Light tones, such as soft greys and greens, were chosen to subtly mirror the natural coastal environment.

A calming blue was intentionally added to create a sense of tranquility, ensuring the space feels serene and welcoming.

This cohesive colour palette ties the apartment's spaces together, reinforcing the coastal theme and enhancing the overall ambiance and design.
