This Bungvilla makeover in Hutt Valley was highly commended in the 2015 TIDA Renovation awards.
The clients bought the home in 2013, and wanted it for a family home. They loved the location, as well as the native bush surrounding the property. However, there wasn’t enough storage for all their collections, they wanted a white crisp theme, and a warm family home.
The old bungvilla was relocated to the new site with the classic veranda facing the street. The house was doubled in size, and the renovation saw the main entry facing the garden area, which achieved a sunny aspect for the living and entry areas.
The renovation featured open plan living, with a highly detailed kitchen to make it part of the living area, with adjoining pantry and laundry house.
The upstairs attic space and sun lounge were created out of the existing roof void, which also houses a large storage area.
The new stairs are seen as sculptural white element in the space, a thing of visual beauty as well as functionality for access to the upstairs area.
