From the architectural designer:

This project involved the design of two high-specification townhouses situated in an affluent Christchurch suburb.

The primary objective was to create residences appealing to individuals seeking to downsize from larger properties within the same geographical area.

The design incorporated elements to address future living requirements, specifically a lift providing access to the first floor, and outdoor areas designed for low maintenance.

A natural material palette was selected for the exterior, featuring stained vertical timber complemented by a Cerrano finished plaster system applied over Rockcote Integra panel.

This natural palate was continued within the interior spaces to establish a consistent aesthetic.

Emphasis was placed on maximising natural light penetration throughout the interiors to enhance the sense of spaciousness and complement the high-level finishes.

Artificial lighting was also closely considered to support the overall illumination scheme.

Given the corner site location, the design addressed both privacy considerations and the need for visual appeal from two distinct street elevations.

This was achieved through the incorporation of a curved wall on the first floor, designed to follow the corner boundary and guide the eye.

Additionally, architectural elements such as wall facade recesses, overhangs, and boxed window frames were utilised to create depth and articulation on the exterior.
