Strength of vision
Durable, yet unassuming joinery elements feature at the Eastgate Centre, providing a balance between a commercial and residential look
As a purpose-built day centre for individuals with intellectual disabilities, the Eastgate Centre's new building is a home away from home for some of its users. For this reason it was important that the aesthetics of the centre reflect both a welcoming and functional appearance.
To lend a sense of strength and durability to the design, Aluminium Systems used its recently designed Commercial Pivot entry door. This door is part of the company's new commercial suite, says Aluminium Systems' Pauline Nola.
"This range of doors and windows can be used on heavy-duty commercial buildings. While the Eastgate Centre is not such a building, it does exemplify the strong look that the commercial suite can create. This suite is suitable for use in schools and apartments, through to commercial offices and buildings."
Other windows and doors in the community centre were manufactured and installed by Phoenix Aluminium, one of Aluminium Systems' fabricators. A large 250 x 480cm sliding door has been used in the activity centre, lending an open, residential look to the design.
