Warm wood and glass mosaic tiles add interest to this small bathroom

Crisp, clean lines will always be a popular choice for bathroom design. However, it's important to avoid a cold, sterile look.

Designer Greg Natale used palisander veneer in this bathroom to add a feeling of warmth. Grey glass mosaic tiles cover both the floor and walls, giving the room a sleek, streamlined feel.

"I like to use the same finish for bathroom floors and walls as this creates a strong visual impact," Natale says.

The shower is partitioned off from the room by a sheet of clear glass, and the shower floor is simply a continuation of the bathroom floor.

Everything is kept as tidy as possible by using recessed fittings. The shower head is recessed into the ceiling, the cistern is built in, and the mirrored cabinets sit flush against the wall.

The room also has plenty of storage to avoid clutter. The veneer cupboards house the washing machine and dryer, and a small inset shelf above the sink is the only place where items can be displayed.

"The inset shelf is lined with white Calacutta marble to break up the continuous flow of tiles. I also used a plain white roof so the room wouldn't be too busy," Natale says.

The freestanding bath is a feature of the room, specifically requested by the homeowner. A drain in the middle of the room takes care of any overflow from the bath.

To ensure a good connection with the rest of the home, the bathroom tiles and palisander veneer are also used in the home's kitchen.
