For this bathroom and matching ensuite, antique penny rounds in the showers, artistic swirls on the Corian vanities and the choice of rose gold fixtures all combine to elegant, matching effect

Elegant, atmospheric, unusual – there may be many gray, black
Elegant, atmospheric, unusual – there may be many ways to describe the allure of the vanity finishes on these bathrooms, created from a Corian Witch Hazel pattern, but reversed!

Designed by Annika Rowson, Rowson Kitchens

From the designer:

The brief for this bathroom and ensuite renovation to designer Annika Rowson was to create elegant yet functional spaces to suit the needs of a family of four.

With the home built in the 1940s it was considered important to keep the spaces timeless and the selection of the vanity material was done with a nod to this Art Deco period.

A standard Corian finish on these vanities? No, black, gray
A standard Corian finish on these vanities? No, in fact quite the reverse – literally. Designer Annika Rowson utilised the Corian pattern Witch Hazel but back to front and the resulting dramatic artistic swirls speak for themselves.

The original bathrooms had green carpet, green vanities and a floral wallpaper. In place of these tired elements, Rowson specified a simple grey tile as a neutral base in both spaces and designed the two bathroom vanities in a complementary Corian Witch Hazel, with grey tones.

The acrylic surface has also been reversed for an even more dramatic effect. The two vanities are fitted with Blum Servo Drive for a seamless look and push-and-go, handle-free operation. The vanities are topped with custom Corian oval basins in Glacier White.

We reversed the sheets of Corian to highlight the texture of the pattern which is created by the natural minerals in the sheet being slightly heavier than the polymers. This results in the natural minerals sinking to the lower 50% of the sheet – which is essentially the underside of the finished sheet. Corian is made up of 1/3 acrylic polymer and 2/3 natural minerals.

Reversing the Corian reveals a stunning pattern and a textural effect, and the designer often applies this method to Corian's Organics Range. It is worth noting that reversing the Corian is more labour intensive in regards to manufacturing, and homeowners need to be aware that by reversing the product the warranty is voided.

The showers in both bathrooms are fitted with gray
The showers in both bathrooms are fitted with ledges as opposed to recessed nooks, allowing for better product storage. Antique penny rounds connect with the Art Deco look.

The main bathroom has a freestanding bath while both this bathroom and the ensuite include a walk-in shower. The Antique penny rounds that feature in the shower stalls help to create texture and also complement the Art Deco era of the home.

In material terms, nothing says elegance like rose gold and the tapware, toilet roll holders, robe hooks and even the pop-up wastes are all in this same fine finish.

Feature OST hand-made pendant lighting by Soktas add a beautiful and unexpected touch in both bathrooms.
