Retreat from the world
Sleeping in and a long soak in the tub are among the many delights of being on vacation
The master suite offers a haven where busy people can relax in privacy. They can get away and enjoy a good book or a long soak in the tub.
Interior designer Bill Cook of Vermilion Designs specified a soft marine palette for this master suite in a Mediterranean-style house designed by architect Michael Faust of Faust Architecture Interiors Design. As part of a beach house, details embrace a nautical theme.
Homeowners Rod and Linda Windley find it an ideal place for decompressing.
"It's a wonderful private space with a warm feeling," says Rod Windley. "We could cocoon for hours in the bedroom."
Down a short hall, leading to the dressing room and the toilet room, is the bathroom, with a deep, freestanding tub and a luxurious shower. The room captures a glamorous Art Deco mood in its silvery-gray color scheme.
The double vanity is a Gustavian-inspired design with details in faux bamboo. The mirrored credenza provides storage space along with a bit of sparkle.
A dramatic detail in the marble shower is the triptych mosaic of sea horses and seaweeds, with the owners' initials intertwined in the center. Frosted crystal taps by Lalique in the shape of a starfish underline the nautical theme.
Practical recessed lights illuminate the room while wall sconces and pendants offer mood lighting. A flat-screen television brings in a modern touch.
