The ensuite was to be reconfigured and refurbished to an international level that reflects the owners' personalities and allows for a moment of breath within their busy lives. The space is used collectively by both owners and that needed to be a consideration in design. In addition to the functionality of the bathroom, the selection of finishes, fixtures and accessories reflect the coastal location of the home with a sophisticated and subtle aesthetic. Moment of glamourThe space is designed to feel eclectic yet cohesive in the combination of materials and fixtures. Custom vanities were designed resembling pieces of furniture. The bath was chosen for a moment of glamour but also as a subtle reflection to the ocean’s movements while the brass Martha Sturdy sculpture above the tub re-evaluates the natural landscape. A combination of all these elements, the ensuite is considered and refined, featuring elements that hold a presence as an individual item but also work cohesively together in the one space. For the spatial design, we wanted to balance tranquillity and function, designing a focal point upon entry that is as beautiful to look at as it is to bath in. To achieve this, the selection of wall finish, bath type and architectural detailing was vital. Opening the ceiling and adding a skylight really finishes the space – washing a warm light down the stone clad wall and adding to the tranquillity. This division of space gave us the opportunity to hide the toilet and shower, allowing privacy when 2 people occupy the ensuite at once.
