Reflected glory
This office and hotel complex presents a shining facade of glass to the world every glazed element, inside and out, was supplied and installed by Queensland Glass
Contemporary architecture makes generous use of door and window glazing both to maximise natural light and to introduce a strong, contemporary aesthetic. This mixed-use office and hotel development provides a gleaming, multi-faceted example.
Queensland Glass has long been respected as a consummate supplier and installer of glazing for a broad range of interior fit-outs, often incorporating unusual, custom pieces into an architect's design. However, the long-standing company also provides full glazing services for upscale commercial exteriors.
An outline of the various elements that went into the facade on Precinct 2, the building featured here, is an indication of the greater part of the building construction market Queensland Glass now encompasses.
The west face of the building pictured below features a 100mm x 50mm flush-glazed aluminium system. The uppermost green windows are back-painted spandrel glass an opaque element that conceals services and floor joists when viewing the building from the exterior.
At ground level, frameless sliding doors with automatic operators were installed, mechanics included, for both foyer entrances. Above these, balustrade glass admits additional light to the foyers.
The ground floor hotel frontage has a different look again, with patrons entering through a run of bifold anodised doors, also supplied and installed by Queensland Glass.
"The variety of skills required on this job from types of glass to fenestration styles is typical of the disciplines our company addresses on a day-to-day basis," says Queensland Glass senior executive Terry Diss.
Craig Peterson from Letzbuild, the developer and builder on the project, says the entire job ran smoothly, with Queensland Glass providing a reliable product and professional input on aspects of the building's glazing.
