Powder room inspires a one-off design solution
The smallest room in the home and likely visited by guests, this powder room really is an opportunity to delight and dazzle
Given its modest size and intimate nature, a powder room brings the opportunity to depart from a home’s wider interior design, often with a more dazzling or surprising aesthetic. This rich-toned powder room follows just such an out-there agenda – encouraging you to check out the decor even before you check your lipstick.
The brief to designer Davinia Sutton was for a ‘wow have you seen’ design that also makes reference to the homeowners’ Indian culture within a modern context.
The layout sees the vanity on show on entry, with the toilet space pinned between two walls to the right, allowing for an element of privacy.

Bold and vibrant, a gold glass mosaic-clad vanity bowl takes centre stage on the vanity.
“This pays homage to the owners’ cultural ties and adds a touch of bling. Contrasting Antique brown granite, in a matt textured finish, was selected as the vanity plinth,” says Sutton.
The powder room’s backdrop of steel fishtail mosaics adds texture, while the polished marble floor tile contrasts the wall mosaic for a layered effect that enhances the room’s sense of space.
In a touch of practical luxury, the basin tap and toilet are both on sensors.
