Natural feel, natural outlooks

The homeowners wanted their main ensuite to incorporate natural elements and have a view of the beautiful countryside landscape. 

They requested double basins, a spacious walk-in shower, a separate bathtub, good lighting, different textures, light woods, clear glass, brushed brass elements, and neutral tones.

I had to design the layout to seamlessly connect the main bedroom, dressing room, and ensuite, while meeting all of the above requirements. 

Thankfully, the light distribution was excellent, which made it easier to separate these three areas. 

To add an element of surprise, we created hidden doors in the dressing room that led into the ensuite. 

Placing the double basins between two full-height windows on view as you entered the ensuite created a dramatic effect. 

We positioned the freestanding tub in front of the left hand window to allow the owners to relax and enjoy the views. 

The large walk-in shower area was located on the right-hand side of the room and was designed to be minimalistic yet spacious enough for two people. 

We used clear glass to keep the room light and take advantage of the natural light. 

As another design feature, I created a long recessed alcove at the entrance of the shower area to store toiletries and accessories.

Due to the constraints of the soil stack's position, the WC needed to be situated close to the right-hand side of the build. 

For the colour and material selection, we experimented with Novello colour swatches until we found the perfect tones for the furniture and Coalbrook brassware. 

Ultimately, we chose a light oak fluted wood for the cabinetry, Corian top and brushed brass fittings to complement the luxury organic colour scheme. 

To introduce some contrast and more texture, I suggested using Tom Dixon marble wall lights above the basins, on either side of the mirrors. 

Using 1200x1200mm light grey porcelain tiles for the walls and floor introduced further matt natural tones. 

We played close attention to the lighting design to ensure this ensuite had a seamless transition from the dressing room/bedroom area, which also created a luxurious, relaxing, yet glamorous ambiance. 

This project was challenging due to budget constraints – however, I am thrilled with the end result and believe it truly reflects the homeowners' style.
