Making an impression
This kitchen stands out with an improved layout and a continuity of refined finishes – including porcelain and pressed tin panel cabinet fronts

From the designer:
The existing kitchen was well specified with high end finishes for its age but it did not spark joy and was not to the owners' taste and style – the kitchen seemed lost in the room.
My homeowners' brief was to create a new kitchen which made use of the full height of the room; featured a longer island which would provide more bench and work space.
The modern, high-end appliances for the kitchen were selected by the owners.
They wanted these placed in a more practical layout for the way they like to work within their kitchen – it was important for them that we flush mount the induction cooktop, ensuring an unobtrusive surface.

Aside from the layout alterations, the owners also really wanted a kitchen with a point of difference.
The size of the space available to work with was not huge but the existing walk-in pantry that was tucked in behind the kitchen provided a huge amount of storage.
For this ancillary space we re-faced all of the base units and panels to ensure continuity with the new kitchen surfaces.
The owners wanted to incorporate pressed tin as a feature somewhere in the kitchen and really liked a monochromatic style but with a more natural warmth and contrasting textures.
Another request was a benchtop that was going to be hardwearing and low maintenance.
Our suggestions were a hardwearing porcelain for the benchtops, which worked really well with the dark stained timber veneer which we used as a contrast and detail throughout the kitchen, along with the crisp, warm white for the vinyl-wrapped fronts.
The pressed tin was powder coated in a warm white to match the kitchen fronts.
As another continuity detail we added the porcelain to the cupboard fronts on the face of the island along with on the rangehood unit – this texture ties in the warmth of the timber and balances the white.
Another feature that was really important to the owner was technology and all of the LED lighting in the kitchen is linked to the home lighting system that is all controlled by an iPad system.
Hence, you can effortlessly brighten and reduce the amount of lighting the kitchen.
The new kitchen really makes the visual statement that the owners were after in the room.
