Liveable housing guidelines achieved in revamped master bathroom in classic home

Are you looking ahead when you chose your design? This bathroom has a modern attractive air – but it is also designed along guidelines that focus on designing homes that meet the changing needs of occupants as they grow older

Designed by Catnick Design Studio

From the designer:

The owner's brief was to create a new home within the walls of this old beauty. However, the gorgeous 115-year-old villa required extensive renovation.

We re-designed the floor plan to include a new luxurious family bathroom, where functionality was key.

Opting for a glass shower stall extended the architecture, bathroom, building, ceramic, floor, flooring, furniture, home, house, interior design, material property, plumbing fixture, property, real estate, room, tap, tile, wall, gray
Opting for a glass shower stall extended the line of sight in this reinvented bathroom space.

The master suite, ensuite and walk-in-robe were designed in accordance with The Liveable Housing Australia Design Guidelines (which focus on designing versatile homes that meet the changing needs of occupants as they grow older).

The bathroom required extensive, careful design.

Beneath the old sewing room – to be converted to a new family bathroom – there was a dry cellar.  This was to be retained, as it was in excellent condition.

The contemporary design for this bathroom included tabletop architecture, bathroom, bathroom accessory, bathroom cabinet, bathroom sink, ceramic, countertop, floor, flooring, furniture, interior design, material property, plumbing fixture, product, property, room, sink, tap, tile, wall, white, white, gray
The contemporary design for this bathroom included tabletop basins and niche vanity pulls, with the latter contributing to an overall uncluttered look.

It was important to utilise every inch of space in the new design as the owner requested a double vanity, a large mirror and a wow factor bath.

We achieved all this and kept the visual line clear as we also extended the frameless shower screen to the ceiling to avoid the need for visual line breaks.

In addition, we also retained all plumbing to the exterior walls and achieved the room design and retained the cellar using Bondek sheeting.

We gutted the interior, re-plastered the walls, introduced new ceilings, electrical, and plumbing and created a new design for a stage 2 addition. This will include a side entrance access to the home, a laundry, new kitchen, a lounge and dining room, all capturing northern light.
