Into the jungle – pamper your senses

Relocating to 277 Broadway, Beauty & Beyond asked Spaceworks – with TV3 Block judge and Spaceworks CEO Lizzi Whaley at the helm – to undertake the interior design. The result was a dramatic, immersive fit-out

Designed by Spaceworks

From the designer:

Beauty & Beyond came to us open to new ideas for a concept store and also for Spaceworks to complete the logo and branding for it.

Their previous Remuera location had been very classical and was located in a modern Victorian Villa.

However, the calibre of the new surrounding Westfield location lent itself to the client having a modern, beautiful and tranquil design more in align with the products and services they offered.

They provided us with their basic functional requirements in terms of treatment rooms, retail space and waiting area.

They had a very small tenancy of 83.2m²

We really want Beauty & Beyond to transport people into the lush greenery of the jungle; a space that caters in true wellness; a place to zone-out from the urban life and get connected with natural roots.

Spaceworks CEO Lizzi Whaley

Spaceworks’ choice of materials – timber, concrete finishes & plants – creates a fresh environment, while brass and glass details add finesse. Strong pops of colour seen in the drapery and fabrics hit the right balance for a sensory experience.

We curated the space-plan to align with our experience story; tapping into the human senses as customers walk into the store. Even the waiting area seating layout is non-conventional, allowing visitors to take in the design around them.

The experience of the services provided by Beauty & Beyond are very sensory so we wanted to ensure that every element of the store has been custom designed to keep in sync with the organic flow.

The shopfront

With timber used for the curved structures, this space is a combination of textured glass and clear glass allowing passers by to see into store while still maintaining an element of privacy for the staff and customers. The height was maximised and used to its full potential with curved details emulating the shapes in the logo that Spaceworks designed for the fit-out.

The logo

The brand shapes were rolled through in the shopfront and are also seen in the shapes used for the retail display. The colours in the brand were used as accents throughout the store.

Front of house

The black-out experience – entering into a black envelope of concrete, timber and plants taking you away from the urban lifestyle.

Corridor – ‘The Cocoon’

This gives the customer an illusion of entering into the jungle; the mirror ceiling and surrounding jungle pattern curtains take you into a world of nature that has already calmed your senses before you make your way into the treatment rooms for a pampering experience.

Treatment rooms

These rooms are designed to offer visual warmth with warm painted walls, timber joinery & flooring all washed with diffusible lighting. The joinery was designed to keep all the beauty equipment’s concealed from clients’ lines of sight.
