Glamor defines this small bathroom

It may be the smallest room in the house, but there's no reason why a bathroom can't also be the center of attention.

This remodeled bathroom, designed for a teenage girl, replaces a dated '70s bathroom with avocado green fixtures.

Cheryl Kees Clendenon of In Detail Interiors says the client wanted to introduce a touch of glamor, and liked the idea of hot pink and black.

"The daughter is very into drama, so we thought it would be fun to do something a little over-the-top for this upstairs bathroom," the designer says.

A mix of black, white and gray penny-round Walker Zanger marble tiles provided the starting point for both the color and material palettes.

"We teamed the tiles with a highly polished black quartz vanity top and high-gloss white Thermofoil cabinets," says Kees Clendenon. "An aluminum toekick and iridescent black porcelain floor tiles also enhance the reflectivity."

Other glamorous touches include a Ginger princess mirror, glittering crystal sconces and a chandelier that is flush-mounted to maximize the height of the small room.

The round motif created by the penny tiles is echoed by the sconces, the knobs on the cabinetry and a collection of mirrors on the rear wall.

Kees Clendenon says the shallow 32 x 32in tub with overhead shower was retained, but was glazed in white to hide the avocado green. The walls of the shower were also relined with marble tiles, and a hot pink curtain added.

"I specified 12 x 12in tiles for the shower, which I seldom do, as they can look dated. But the tile size just seemed to work in this bathroom."

Practicalities were another key consideration. The basin is top-mounted with integral faucets to make cleaning easy. This was also a cost-effective option. And the cabinet doors are flush with no crevices.

Additional storage is provided by the medicine cabinet on the opposite wall.
