Grand design
How to respond to a French chateau-look exterior? This interior comprises ornate detailing, a formal run of rooms, a grand staircase and modern living amenities
Designed by Sonja McAuliffe, Archertec Interiors
From the interior designer:
Our owners came to us with two things, a stunning block, and a deep understanding for what home they were after.
Coming from the rich culture of Italy, one owner had been exposed to art, architecture, and design all his life and wanted a home that reflected their lives as well as providing a home for their young family.
Located on a prominent corner block of Deakin, the site presented itself as the perfect canvas for us to bring their dreams to reality.
Many existing healthy trees were on the block and have been retained to ensure the home sits within the site gracefully.
From the exterior, the brief was for a French chateau, with detailing throughout the facades giving a hint as to what was inside.

The interiors have been designed with a classical hierarchy in mind while integrating modern living spaces.
Formal lounge and dining rooms greet guests, as well as a feature staircase leading to rooms above.
Beyond the formal rooms there is an open plan kitchen, dining, and living space with high ceilings to capture ample northern sunlight.
This living space connects directly to the outdoor alfresco area which is screened from the street.
Our owners were engaged in the process throughout design and construction, with all designers, builders, and consultants working as a team to deliver their dream.
Detailed brick corbelling and parapet details have been implemented with great care and showcase the quality and attention to detail of the home, careful coordination between architect and builder was paramount in the successful delivery of all exterior details.
Inside the home, finely detailed wainscoting, cornices and skirting boards showcase a master craftsmanship carried through all rooms with careful attention to detail evident.
The alfresco area and surrounding external spaces carry the quality of construction with matching details and finishes to ensure a consistent result throughout.
Travertine pavers have been laid carefully and with consideration to the site as a whole and connect the external spaces, the craftmanship in the terrace above the entry showcases the clear vision of the home between our owners' brief and the works executed.
