The concept of an outdoor shower is both fresh and summery. The combination of wood slats, tiles and stainless steel creates a cool aesthetic that goes hand in hand with swimming and lazy days.

The owners of this home enjoyed their outdoor shower so much that they asked Hutker Architects to design their indoor bathroom to reflect the same character and experience, says Mark Hutker.

"We often joke with our clients that we are the masters of outdoor showers a local tradition on Martha's Vineyard, where this house is located. In place of the cedar often used for privacy screens, we have adopted teak, a highly water-resistant wood."

The close vicinity of the sea prompted Hutker to choose marble tiles in the color of sea foam for the tub basin. The slate floor tiles are similar to the terrace stone just outside the window, says Hutker.

"The mirror appears to float in front of the wall tiles. Along with the mechanical arms of the lamps and wing mirrors, this creates a sense of whimsy."

In its entirety, the bathroom can be seen as split into four, defined by the curved stainless steel arms that form the shower curtain and privacy screens for the toilet and shower. The slats on the shower floor are also curved, adding to the informal and natural look of the room.
