Character strengths
For this ensuite, the light and skylights highlight the organic imperfections in the wall tiles selected – bouncing light and creating texture & movement

From the designer:
The setting
The existing home was situated on a quiet, tree-lined street and after living there for a number of years, the owners felt they had outgrown the family residence.
It wasn’t really suiting their social lifestyle and their two grown teenage boys.
I worked closely with the owners to re-design the existing home floorplan in the original part of the home once we had the extension approved for the new main living spaces – this gave us the flexibility and space to allow for extra bathrooms and ensuites in the home.
The ensuite
The teenagers now have their own separate bathroom for getting ready each day and this doubles up as the main bathroom when guest come to stay.
The material pallet of the house is consciously simple and calming – it has been layered with texture to bring depth, warmth and interest – and this ensuite follows suit.

We have used soft tones of blonded timber for the vanity, in a reeded profile; stone and organic pearlised tiles for the walls; while the feature wall in the shower and the floors have movement in arm-look travertine look – brining a Zen sanctuary-like feel to the ensuite and connectivity throughout the home.
Introducing the shower niches afforded storage for body wash, shampoos etc – this has a recessed strip light for ambience when showering.
Challenges
Existing glass brick wall / windows weren’t in keeping with the home and dated the bathrooms.
Once the owners agreed to their removal, we put in skylights above for natural light instead while still maintaining privacy
Robert Gordon Ceramic wall lights were used for providing extra light and ambience to the space.
I love how both the light and skylights highlight the organic imperfections in the wall tiles we selected – bouncing light and creating texture and movement with the space.
