Center of the action
As the hero of the master suite, this bathroom has it all plenty of space, interesting views, and furniture and fittings that double as pieces of art
A lovely, large bedroom with plenty of room for relaxing appeals to most of us. However, where couples have differing schedules, this can pose problems.
Charles Orr of Hutker Architects was asked to design a master suite where the bedroom had only a bed, with all other facilities placed elsewhere in the suite.
A single large space, accessed from the bedroom by a frosted glass sliding door, contains the bathroom, European-style open shower and dressing room. Adjoining this is a sauna, and a French door opens onto a deck with a spa pool. To catch views of the marshland and ocean beyond, one wall of the bathroom is fully glazed, and a frosted glass toilet partition provides privacy without obstructing the view.

"Because the owners are more likely to have the time and the opportunity to appreciate the views from the bathroom, we floated the sinks in front of the fixed window panels," says Orr.
The glass sinks and countertops were made by a local glass artisan, and have supporting structures in the side walls. The exposed plumbing is finished in chrome, and medicine cabinets on the side walls are hinged and double sided, so they can be folded out in front of the basin when required.
A large, curved, wood-topped vanity visually divides the large space into the bathroom and dressing room.
Now one owner can sleep undisturbed, while the other is dressing or bathing.
