An elevated everyday escape

Functionality without compromising aesthetics – thoughtful design moves create an ensuite that balances the indulgence of a 5-star hotel with the calm and comfort of home

Designed by Erina Emery, Erina Emery Interiors

From the interior designer:

Created for a busy blended family, this master ensuite was designed as a daily retreat – offering the indulgence of a 5-star hotel with the calm and comfort of home.

The brief was clear – a space that felt peaceful, luxurious, and could be used by two people simultaneously without compromising on function or flow.

A double vanity and generous double shower form the foundation of this multi-functional layout.

These elements allow both homeowners  to move through their routines in harmony, while still feeling like they each have their own space.

To elevate the experience, we focused on layered materiality and subtle drama.

Large square marble tiles were cut down and reimagined as a checkerboard floor, offering a bold yet refined visual moment.

The marble continues up the walls, elegantly framed with a custom capping stone – adding a sense of cohesion and craftsmanship throughout the space.

Brushed chrome tapware and hardware were chosen to complement the cool-toned palette, while a bespoke ladder-style heated towel rail was integrated into the tiled wall.

With a cavity slider located here, we subtly packed out the wall to accommodate the electrics – an example of function-led problem-solving that never compromises the design language.

Natural light and ventilation were essential to the owners.

The ensuite sits over a ceiling cavity holding air conditioning units, so we custom-designed steel-framed windows with fluted smoked glass.

This design move hides the services while allowing filtered light and airflow – balancing beauty and practicality.

Lighting was treated as an integral design element.

Sculptural sconces flank a custom-made mirror, casting a warm glow that contributes to the tranquil, spa-like atmosphere.

Every detail in this ensuite was curated to support moments of calm in a bustling home.

The result is a space that feels tailored, generous, and quietly glamorous – an elevated everyday escape.
