This intimate powder room, with evocative, flower-like vanity, demonstrates how bold design choices can transform a utilitarian space into a sculptural experience

Designed by Priyanka Sareen, Home Factor

From the designer:

Design philosophy

This powder room continues the overarching design narrative of the home, which draws inspiration from a diving whale's tail – emphasising curves, balance, and natural material choices throughout.

The interior spaces celebrate this organic philosophy through flowing forms and earthy colour palettes that connect the owners to nature.

The design celebrates the marriage of organic forms with contemporary sophistication, creating a memorable guest experience within a compact footprint.

Key design elements

Sculptural vanity

The floor-length stone vanity, shaped like an unfurling lotus, serves as the room's centrepiece.

This organic form contrasts beautifully with the geometric precision of the surrounding elements, creating visual tension and interest.

The flowing silhouette eliminates traditional storage in favour of pure sculptural impact.

Feature wall treatment

The dramatic leaf mosaic feature wall in white and grey tones creates a sophisticated backdrop that complements the lotus-inspired vanity.

The organic pattern adds textural depth while maintaining the room's natural design narrative.

The mosaic's subtle colour variation provides visual interest without overwhelming the compact space.

Lighting design

The sleek bronze pendant light positioned strategically beside the mirror provides both functional task lighting and serves as a jewellery-like accent.

The warm bronze finish adds richness and coordinates with the gunmetal tapware for a cohesive metallic palette.

Design challenges & solutions

Challenge: Creating impact within a confined powder room footprint.

Solution: Focused on one statement piece (the lotus vanity) supported by complementary textures and finishes.

Challenge: Balancing functionality with sculptural design.

Solution: Wall-mounted tapware and carefully positioned lighting maintain usability while preserving the vanity's pure form.

Outcome

This powder room transcends its utilitarian purpose to become a sculptural gallery space.

The bold design choices create a memorable experience for guests while demonstrating how thoughtful material selection and form can elevate even the smallest residential spaces.
