Canada might be a long way from our shores but leaky buildings have been an issue in that country too. When Canadian specialist builder Paladin Construction came to New Zealand to reinvent a Remuera residence, the company introduced two key materials the cladding and window and door systems as part of the design rethink and weatherproofing.

The Paladin Construction architect worked with James Hardie Scyon® Linea® Weatherboard cladding to transform the home from the expected to the exceptional, says marketing manager at James Hardie, Merv Giam.

"Scyon Linea Weatherboard was chosen in part for its crisp, enduring profile that bridges a gap between contemporary and classic. The other major factor was that it was custom designed for our varied, often extreme climate."

Besides leading the new look, along with window and door frames in the Residential Series by Aluminium Systems, the versatile cladding is sized to fit most standard wall frames. This meant a big cost saving for Paladin, as it minimised cutting and wastage.

"The Scyon Linea system's deep shadow lines and lightweight composition are precision engineered for enduring strength and stand-out good looks," says Giam. "This James Hardie system reflects a new, smarter generation in building products combining workability, durability and architectural simplicity."

Kind to architects, renovators and owners, the Scyon Linea system is also beneficial to the planet. The main ingredients in James Hardie products are cement, sand, water and renewable plantation pulp.
