Tactile systems at Eden Park to ensure the convenience and wellbeing of the visually impaired were provided by Barrier Free Solutions
Careful consideration has been given to the convenience and wellbeing of the visually disabled community in the design and layout of the new stand at Eden Park.
Privately owned Blenheim company Barrier Free Solutions won the contract to supply and install tactile products to ensure visually impaired visitors can move safely and easily around the stadium. The company supplied two products from its range of solutions designed for use by the visually and physically disabled community.
Yellow plastic polyurethene studs were supplied and laid by the company's team of staff and subcontractors in the carparks and core stairwells to ensure circulation paths are highly visible and easy to follow. These studs have an anti-slip rating and are also easy to install. To complement the aesthetics of the corporate areas including stairwells and corporate boxes, Barrier Free Solutions also installed a more subtle stainless steel stud with a yellow carborundrum insert. While they offer similar tactile and anti-slip qualities to the polyurethene studs, the stainless steel blends better with the floor tiles in these areas.
Barrier Free Solutions can supply or supply and install its tactile products, such as hazard tiles and buttons, throughout New Zealand. Many projects involve working with local councils to develop and supply special products to suit the needs of particular communities.
