As a large and largely unseen expanse, a roof is often the best place for the hundreds of lighting cables needed by a building the size of Eden Park. The completion of the construction stages doesn't signal the end of foot traffic on the roof, however. Once the building is operational, service personnel still need to access equipment safely and without damaging either cables or the roof.

Monkey Toe Systems secured the contract to supply and install the roof access and lighting cables support system for the South Stand, handling all the design and engineering for the entire package. The roof access had to be cost effective, comply with or exceed health and safety requirements, and double as a support system for the hundreds of lighting cables running over the roof. This included 200 lighting cables weighing 48kg per metre. The roof walkways were designed in two parts, with supports for the cable trays and cables installed first and then overlaid with Monkey Toe walkways. Checker plates on top of the walkway protect the cables from UV rays. Two access stairs and bridges, spanning 6m, were designed and installed in the core of the building to connect the roof access system to the lower levels. The versatile Monkey Toe system allows it to be adapted to incorporate handrails and supports for equipment and services. The Monkey Toe Systems design team is committed to providing solutions for all access or mounting challenges and specialises in custom design and build providing high-quality, robust and reliable systems for building projects throughout New Zealand.
