The sky's the limit

When designing a tower block, council height restrictions generally make a flat-roofed building the best choice. Such an option, however, calls for even more attention to waterproofing than with a pitched roof.

Neuchatel supplied and applied the waterproofing for the roof of the SkyCity Grand Hotel. The company has provided waterproofing products in New Zealand for more than 100 years. For this project, it applied its Imper range of bituminous sheet membrane products, a two-layer, black, mineral membrane that matches the convention centre roofing. Manager Royce Whitehead says Paralon, a product used extensively in England and Europe, is a top-quality waterproofing membrane.

"We have worked with the Fletcher Construction team on similar projects, and they have confidence in our workmanship and in this product," he says.
