They asked kitchen and bath designer Heather Hungeling of Clive Christian Atlanta to remodel the existing bathroom. It had an angled entrance off the hallway, creating a space that was full of corners and lots of awkward and wasted space. The closets were small and cramped, and the suite didn't fit in with the style of the rest of the house. Legend Plan To correct these problems, rather than redecorate, the owners and the designer decided the best solution was to gut the entire master suite. It was then redesigned using straight, rather than angled, lines."This created the opportunity to have a much larger walk-in closet, a capacious double steam shower, a bathtub, two vanities and sinks, and a separate toilet," says Hungeling. The owners had seen and admired a traditional-style bathroom at the Clive Christian showroom and felt that it represented the look and ambiance they wanted for their master suite. To emphasize the cabinetry's traditional design, walls, shelves and cabinets are all painted in a delicate shade of white and finished with a soft glaze. For added romance, the designer created an intimate space within the bathroom for the freestanding, hammered nickel tub. This deep, old-fashioned-style tub is centered beneath a window overlooking the garden, and below a paneled drop-down ceiling. Edged with dentil cornices and framed by two decorative columns, this alcove introduces an element of drama into the bathroom.Again, to simplify the space, Calacatta Gold marble has been used for the countertops, floor and shower.
