The contemporary appearance of the events centre is achieved by using concrete structural surfaces as minimalist finishes.

Dominion Constructors was enlisted by Mainzeal as the concrete sub-contractorfor this project, and was responsible for all concrete, form and precast work, says Brett Russell, managing director of the company.

"A special feature of our work here was the self-compacting concrete we used on the main columns. This provided an F5, blemish-free, off-the-form finish," he says.

Interior finishes include polished concrete floors, exposed blockwork walls and concrete panels.

"The inclined precast walls incorporate a pacific design theme, that was formed using a fibreglass mould inserted during casting," says Russell.

Dominion Constructors laid 2300m² of concrete, including the 150mm-thick, single-pour slab that is the floor of the arena. They also installed 13 in-situ proscenium walls, which exceeded 20m in height, and 4000m² of formwork.
