Luxury never goes out of fashion. No matter how streamlined our homes become, quality materials, fixtures and fittings are still highly sought after.

So it's probably not surprising that the grandeur evoked by many large homesteads of the 1930s is undergoing a modern-day renaissance. It's a theme that underscores the latest display home from Medallion Homes featured here.

The Grand Pavilion in Flagstaff Hill, Adelaide, has been designed to re-create the traditional splendour of these homes, but comfort and technology have not been sacrificed in the process.

The 376m² house features high ceilings up to 3.9m in the entrance hall, formal living room, dining room and the master suite. In keeping with the era, walnut flooring is also a feature of these rooms, while antique grey marble flooring enhances the sense of luxury in the entrance hall. Custom timber French doors and architraves in the entrance hall and master suite are crafted from matching walnut.

The formal living area features neutral furnishings in warm tones, with consoles, tables and accessories reinforcing the Art Deco look. Contemporary fabrics repeat a circular theme and add a modern twist.

Modern materials also come to light in the streamlined kitchen, with its Luxe Ebony timber veneer cabinetry, metallic lacquer, aluminium trim and CaesarStone benchtops and splashbacks.

A full complement of Miele appliances ensures the kitchen is equipped with the latest technology to enable the owners to entertain casually and on a grand scale.

Medallion Homes marketing manager Steve Sinclair says the company has its own in-house architectural team and puts an emphasis on employing top tradespeople. The partnership with Miele is an extension of this philosophy.

"There is an expectation in a home of this quality, that it will feature appliances and fittings of a similar high quality. The prestige of the Miele brand fits with our own brand and, importantly, how our clients see themselves."

In keeping with this philosophy, the appliance line-up goes beyond standard specifications, and even includes a coffee machine and a steam oven.

The Miele CVA620 coffee machine is designed for the serious coffee drinker. It not only brews coffee to suit, it also grinds the beans to ensure freshness. Two cups can be prepared simultaneously and there is a choice of three cup sizes. The machine also features an adjustable setting for water hardness and a stand-by function with a delay start setting.

The Miele DG4060 aluminium built-in steam cooker is ideal for those who enjoy eating healthily or for people who simply value speed, convenience and good results every time. As well as its cooking functions, the steam oven can be used to defrost, re-heat, blanch and stew food.

Traditional cooking is catered for by the Miele H4060BPKAT pyrolytic, aluminium oven with Navitronic controls. This multifunction oven features intelligent dialogue controls with large text display and user prompting.

The kitchen also features the Miele H4060BM CombiOven, combining conventional oven functions with a powerful microwave, for faster cooking times. This oven has a range of functions, all designed to make meal preparation easier. The CombiOven is designed to be teamed with the pyrolytic oven and steam cooker it has a similar aluminium finish and Navitronic controls.

To keep the kitchen area well ventilated, a Miele DA279 Decor aluminium rangehood was installed. This 90cm-wide hood provides fast, efficient and quiet removal of steam and cooking odours.

An induction cooktop, the Miele KM493-1, complements the other cooking appliances. Rather than creating heat in a hot plate, which is then transferred to the cookware, induction cooktops create the heat directly in the base of the pan. As a result, Miele says you can save up to 30% time and up to 25% energy. The company also says induction cooktops provide a gas-like response, but with the ease of cleaning and the comfort and safety of ceramic cooktops.

To take care of the washing up, the kitchen is equipped with the Miele G2630SCi integrated dishwasher. This dishwasher accommodates 14 place settings and features Novotronic electronic controls and 18 wash programmes.
