gathered together
Bringing together a development on the scale of The Base required a project manager with an ability to absorb changes on the run
From DISTINCTIVE fins signalling the entrance to the cornerstone The Warehouse to all the retail buildings on the expansive site, Naylor Love Construction provided a pivotal role, in terms of both project management and design services to the developer.
"A phalanx of construction and fit-out companies were brought together to allow The Base to come into being," says Justin Storm, project overseer for Naylor Love. "From excavation to structure to ceilings, over 50 subcontractors played their part. It was our job to keep everything running smoothly and to schedule as client wishes expanded and the plans developed."
As their largest store in the country, The Warehouse was representative of the entire job in scale alone.
"To an extent, this was treated as a laboratory in terms of trying out new retail ideas various elements were configured and reconfigured as designs evolved."
As ideas changed Naylor Love kept pace. Redesigning lighting systems to suit the evolving interior was a particular focus of the company.
"In the end, the retail displays were going up at the same time as the lighting overhead a result of the changing circumstances and the tight time lines. This collaborative approach allowed work to flow smoothly."
The Warehouse has titania roofing, precast walls and Titan facade panels. Choices were critical because the building could not be clad for fear of thermal expansion an issue given the heat-attracting nature of the deep red brand colour.
