Dramatic result
Dark cabinetry, white benchtops and stainless appliances make this kitchen the focus of the open-plan living area
A contemporary kitchen in an old villa creates an interesting contrast, and ensures it will be the focal point of the space.
The owner of this home wanted her new kitchen to have a smart, modern look and she also wanted it to be a dramatic feature in the open-plan living areas of this traditional villa.
She chose wenge for the cabinetry and light grey for the walls, and teamed them with Smeg stainless steel appliances and a white Corian benchtop.
"The simple, clean lines of Smeg appliances have always appealed to me and the bonus is that they are simple to use and easy to look after," she says.
From the Smeg collection, the choice of appliances included a 60cm double wall oven and a 90cm-wide five-burner gas cooktop paired with a Power Pack rangehood, all on the back wall of the kitchen. An integrated dishwasher is built into the island and a microwave is concealed behind glass sliding doors.
