Creating a spectacle
Joinery in the hotel and convention centre was supplied by commerical joinery specialist Gos Australia
Some buildings are destined to be landmarks. A structure in the public eye can become famous even before the doors open.
Commercial joinery specialist Gos Australia (Gosa) drew on its years of experience when working on the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Hilton Melbourne South Wharf, says director Collin Ellul. Both buildings quickly became part of the fabric of the city.
To help the convention centre achieve a 6-Star Green Star rating, Gosa used sustainable materials, such as E-zero board, when constructing the main staircase along with seating, reception desks and various other joinery for the project. Low-VOC paints and finishes fulfilled Green Star requirements and the firm kept careful track of the paperwork to assist in documentation.
For the adjoining 20-storey, 396-room hotel, Gosa manufactured and fitted the guest suites with bedhead panels, side tables, a dry bar and desks. In the lounge area, Gosa manufactured the bars, banquette seating, waiters' stations and other pieces of furniture.
Gosa employs its own installation team, allowing it to oversee a project from the initial drawings to the finishing touches. This allows versatility and flexibility when adapting a design to project conditions as well as co-ordinating with other trades for on-time completion.
"By taking the time to workshop with the client, in accordance with design and criteria, the final product is made to specification on demanding deadlines," Ellul says.
