Change of heart
A classic facade is faithfully restored while behind it a contemporary extension with a colourful presence and modern flow connects with the garden at rear

From the renovating designer:
This heritage villa in Mount Victoria has been reimagined into a bold, layered home that honours its past while embracing contemporary life.
With architectural guidance from Slessor Architects, the original villa's formal façade and period detailing were respectfully restored, forming a timeless foundation for a striking rear extension that engages with the garden and a cherished century-old pear tree.
Inside, a refined palette of rich timber veneers, veined stone, fluted glass, and industrial accents creates a gallery-like backdrop for the owners’ extensive contemporary art collection.
Mid-century and raw industrial motifs are woven through custom joinery, sculptural lighting, and curated furniture – balancing texture, tone, and restraint.
The private spaces contrast the calm public zones, bursting with fearless colour and individuality through unexpected, jewel-toned combinations.
The result is a home that seamlessly fuses eras and identities – crafted, curated, and unapologetically expressive of its owners’ personalities.
