Bright for business
Glass in a wide variety of applications gives this office fit-out sparkle and transparency
Glass was one of the dominant materials used by Smith Madden to add some shine and colour to the offices. Queensland Glass was contracted to complete these features, which were complex in parts, says sales director Terry Diss.
"One element of the design that provided an interesting challenge was the Mondrian-style patterned glass walls in the reception area and hallway. These are made using back-painted glass with aluminium framing, which was custom-built for the project and carefully installed in the building. This was a challenge in itself due to the size of the panels, which had to be transported in sections."
In order to create the semi-circular shell around one of the meeting rooms, Queensland Glass matched curved glass panels with an aluminium frame that was curved to the same diameter. This part of the project involved working to exacting measurements in order to ensure that the frame met with the glass.
"Another area of the office has a slanted glass wall, tinted for privacy. To make the door slide at an angle, we used specialised roller systems," says Diss.
Queensland Glass is no stranger to this level of complexity. As one of Australia's leading suppliers of glazing, aluminium and decorative window treatments, the company provides its services to the commercial, and industrial sectors.
