All that glitters is gold mosaic in this luxe powder room

Glamour, sophistication and a sense of enhanced space are all features of this granite and gold mosaic powder room

Glamour was the key theme in the brief to architect and interior designer Richard Archer for this light-catching powder room.

“In fact, this was the owner’s description of his ideal powder room for this major renovation to an older style Sydney apartment.”

Archer relished the task of turning this small internal space into a talking point and the owners are thrilled with its transformation into a world of matte black and brilliant gold.

“Curved walls of seamless black Corian clad the shower and surround the toilet. These matte elements disappear into the background when contrasted with the brilliant gold mosaic tiled wall that curves around the Nero Tempesta black marble countertop”

Storage – always a vital consideration in a powder room – is deftly concealed behind the  mirror, with LED lighting washing the gold mosaic above the wall-mounted tap and basin.

This luxurious powder room forms part of a Sydney harbourside apartment – and the glittering mosaics could well have taken their cues from the sparkling harbour waters. Various concealed light sources, including those behind the mirror, heighten the dramatic bling effect of the mosaics. The combination of matt black and bright gold create the sense of drama and opulence that the owner was hoping for.

Below this again, the vanity cabinet is mirror fronted adding to the sense of spaciousness. And a large mirror on a side wall does similar.

Keeping the space fresh and airy, an artfully placed quiet extractor was introduced – avoiding the need for unsightly fans or grilles.
