"We could only use the existing space, which was long and narrow. The room was made smaller by a solid wall between the tub and shower, and a half wall that concealed the toilet."Muller says the decor was also long past its use-by date, and included a carpeted floor. Narrow bathroom, carera marble "The owner wanted a much more modern, clean-lined master bathroom that would be very serene, like a spa. It needed to be soft, and not too hard-edged, with an elegant look."To open up the space, the two dividing walls were removed, and the shower walls replaced with glass."This completely opened up the bathroom and made it seem a lot larger," says Muller. "Because we removed the half wall, the new toilet was turned 90° so it now backs up to the main wall, which is a lot more convenient, yet it is still out of sight from the door."The vanity was replaced with a dark-stained alder cabinet topped with Carrara marble. The gray veining in the marble echoes the color of the walls. Charcoal grey porcelain tiles lined with Carera marble mosaic tiles Television in Bathroom "It's a very warm gray," says the designer. "And we repeated it in the porcelain floor tiles, and even the wood stain has a hint of gray."Porcelain tiles also wrap around the wall defining the tub area. Carrara marble mosaics line the floor of the steam shower, the tub surround and a niche above the tub.A glittering chandelier and crystal light fittings above the two basins add a welcome touch of glamour."This is a simple space, and it needed something dramatic to make it special," says Muller.
