All about the curves
Humans aren't made of straight lines, so why should our bathrooms be? This master ensuite offers curves in all the right places, echoing elements in other areas of the home
Designed by Tracy Murphy, Vekart
From the designer:
This ensuite was designed for a busy professional couple whose brief was very simple – create a luxurious, moody and restful space to retreat away from long, busy, workdays.
The owners wanted somewhere to chill out with a glass of wine and enjoy the view to the sea.
At the design stage, curved walls to the shower were discussed to match other elements within the home.
Council approval was sought before sending the curved wall templates away to have custom fiberglass moulds made.
Once installed, these were finished with a small vertical marble finger tile, with the curving detail also following through into the shower niche.
A freestanding dark charcoal concrete bath with tile shelf and gunmetal tapware creates a feature while adding to the luxurious feel.
The double thickness wall was added to house custom made recessed wall units, complete with power points, creating considerable storage.
Mirrors were specified with radius corners to complement the shower's curves.
A custom acrylic vanity top with easy clean, curved moulded basins stands out against American white oak veneer cabinetry with recessed sensor LED lighting concealed within the handle, to illuminate the drawer interiors.
All tapware has a gunmetal or aged iron finish to complement the dark colour scheme with a shower skylight added to provide some natural light.
With the laundry being directly below the ensuite, a chute was incorporated into the lower section of the tall unit with the top half being towel/linen storage.
