2024 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year

Award-winning ensuites, master suites and powder rooms in the 2024 Trends International Design Awards Bathroom of the Year

Winner:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom Suite of the Year

Jack Fugaro Architect – Melbourne, Australia

The challenge in designing this suite was to give personality to a series of formal spaces contained within a single zone that also serves as a private retreat.

The suite opens to a small kitchenette bench, giving a hotel-like experience on arrival, which  leads into the generously sized bedroom and on to the separate his-and-hers walk-in-robes.

Further in, the ensuite bathroom is sculptural in form, with refined detailing and a rich layered material palette of Verde Alpi marble, ribbed panelling and black hexagon mosaics.

The subtle curved wall where the bath is located is an interesting detail, as is having the sit down dressing table incorporated into the vanity.

Contrasting materials provide a dramatic sumptuous master bathroom design with a luxurious feel.

Winner:

2024 TIDA International Powder Room of the Year

Cube Dentro – Auckland, New Zealand

Entry to this powder room is concealed by a handcrafted cavity sliding door that blends seamlessly into the wider home – panelled in Melamine on the exterior to match the surrounding interior, and tiled inside to mimic the room’s walls

A standout feature of the design is the vanity feature wall, finished in a black concrete-look plaster and illuminated by LED lights recessed into a full-height mirror.

Several things aspects of this powder room stand-out: its moody quality; the use of industrial textures and steel; the relationship of forms and shapes; and the great proportions.

Winner:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year

Diego Revollo – São Paulo, Brazil

The renovation of the master suite in this 1200m²  duplex apartment has taken his-and-her design to another level, with not only separate his-and-her closets, but also completely separate his-and-her ensuite bathrooms.

In both of these bathrooms, the vanities contain a distinctive combination of a central stone worktop counter appearing to sit within a framework of fluted timber storage cabinetry.

The same stone is used to create a dividing wall between the shower and toilet, which are contained within a glass enclosure.

Meanwhile, the bedroom and its adjacent workout room, are also designed to take maximum advantage of the extensive urban views.

The combination of grey Onyx stone and timber fluted cabinetry is visually appealing and imparts a sense of grandeur that complements the finishes in the master bedroom.

The layered aspect of the design complements the scale of the spacious layout.

Runner-up:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom Suite of the Year

Mcmahon and Nerlich – Melbourne, Australia

A full-width steel window in the main suite of this warehouse-inspired townhouse separates the main bedroom and its ensuite bathroom.

Combined with the dramatic skylight over the bath, this adds a subtle wash of light, contributing to the Zen ambience throughout the space.

The skylight’s indirect light highlights the hanging plant, the patina of the aged bronze tapware and the textural Moroccan hand-made tiles lining the walls, to create a unique bathing experience.

A unique bathroom design full of character, with a clever use of a mid-height steel window to separate the bedroom and bathroom and allow natural light into this internal room.

The bathroom's bold green and blue colour scheme and hanging plants create a natural and biophilic environment, despite its internal location.

Runner-up:

2024 TIDA International Powder Room of the Year

Birdblack Design – Wollongong, New South Wales

This ground floor powder room serves both the homeowners and their guests, and continues the warm beige, brass and gold tones seen throughout the rest of the home.

That’s evident in the French Vanilla marble flooring flowing in from the hallway, and the walnut vanity plinth, topped with its Calacatta Gold basin.

Covering all four walls, a mural depicts the moon and birds in flight, while the ceiling is painted with a textural gold paint.

This powder room is extremely intriguing – with its bold choice of materials and products.

Although it contains several dramatic stand-out products, they all work together seamlessly – which can sometimes be hard to achieve in such a small space.

Runner-up:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year

Cube Dentro – Auckland, New Zealand

Owners of this home frequently hosted guests and wanted them to experience a luxurious and modern main bathroom when they stayed.

Two types of tile feature in the design.

The predominant Calacatta Gold on the floor and main wall surfaces has a bold marble design, with striking vein patterns and a flush of gold.

This is contrasted with a dark matt tile with cement and metallic details, on the shower and the vanity wall.

Finalist:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year

Concepts by Gavin Hepper – Sydney, Australia

The full interior design of this new build draws inspiration from the architectural elements of the property.

Working to enhance the rounds and curves, the contemporary bathroom is a playful nod to both colour and texture.

On the initial architectural plans, Removing a window from the initial bathroom plan eased  privacy concerns, while adding a beautiful circular skylight still ensures an abundance of natural light.

Finalist:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year

Design by the Jonathans – Woodbridge, Connecticut

An outdated 1980s master bath that has been transformed to create a sanctuary where the owners could feel energised in the morning and relaxed before resting at night.

The focus of the re-design was to invite nature in through the tall glass window.

Light oak vertical wood slats draw your eyes to the open raked ceiling, while the square slate floor is a grounding element.

The vanity features a floating stone countertop and incorporates double sinks and a make-up station

And a dark coloured, egg-like freestanding tub for two is positioned so the owners can relax and appreciate the view.

Finalist:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year

Dominik Karl – Perth, Western Australia

Spanish influences abound in this bathroom suite – one of the owners' favourite destinations is Granada, Spain and, in particular, the palace/fortress of Alhambra.

This architectural marvel became the primary source of inspiration for the home design, though the master suite still required a degree of sophistication to suit the owners’ lifestyle.

Extensive use of natural stone, aged timber veneers and organic metal finishes were essential in achieving the historical and tactile feel for the spaces.

Eternodesign – Queenstown, New Zealand

This master suite was part of a full, coherent interior design scheme in a new home on a steep site overlooking Lake Wakatipu.

The suite’s master bedroom was oriented to make the most of the expansive views, while Ink/white ombre linen curtains soften the light in the space.

Tucked in behind the bedroom, the master bathroom brings the outside in, with a textured palette, soft, subtle lighting, colour and attention to detail.

Knight Varga Interiors – Vancouver, Canada

This primary bathroom needed to balance “his and hers” needs both in style and usage of the room, as well as taking advantage of the view and the ample natural light.

But it also needed to maintain privacy, despite the two large windows, one of which is fully inside the shower and other next to the bathtub.

This was addressed by installing Smart Glass Windows – with one touch and the windows go from clear to completely obscured, providing privacy while still allowing light through.

Fixtures and finishes needed to be scaled appropriately, to suit the generous size of the room.

Knight Varga Interiors – Vancouver, Canada

This powder room is part of a new home build and is the only washroom on the main floor of the house,

So it needed to have attractive features to impress guests, but also be durable enough to withstand daily use from the family.

The architectural style of the house leans contemporary with rich warm elements, and interior materials were selected to reflect this, including for the powder room.

Finalist:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year

Landmark Homes Manawatu – Palmerston North, New Zealand

A strong industrial-inspired colour and material palette was key to meeting the homeowners design preferences for this new-build family home on a constrained inner-city plot

The irregular shape and overall proportions of the master ensuite floorplan provided an opportunity to create a bespoke wall-hung double vanity.

Its extensive concrete-look Dekton benchtop contrasts with the organic textured finish of the cabinetry and provides ample workspace for dual use.

Finalist:

2024 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year

Pichelmann Custom Building / Precise Custom Joinery – Canberra. Australia

Three main elements – marble, veneer and curving design features – work together harmoniously in this bathroom.

To achieve the high level of finish, required active attention to detail from framing through to finishing trades, especially seen in the shower's curved walls and niche.

Using timber laminate veneer as the entry threshold and on feature walls, rather than for the vanity, is an unusual element that sets this ensuite apart.
