2021 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year
Congratulations to the winners and finalists in the 2021 TIDA International Bathroom of the Year – see top bathrooms from leading designers
Winner:
TIDA International Bathroom of the Year
Detail by Davinia Sutton – Christchurch
This boldly designed ensuite bathroom sits centre stage in the master wing of a contemporary new home.
The large allocated space allowed the designer to extend the concept of providing ‘his and her’ facilities beyond the usual double basin vanity.
Here, there’s essentially ‘his and her’ bathrooms – each with its own entrance, vanity and toilet – separated by a large central double shower zone at the core of the room
Judges' comments:
This dramatic dark bathroom oozes luxury and calm.
Sophisticated and moody, it's a clever design combining his and her vanities with a shared shower area.
Great accent lighting and layering of textured materials.

Runner-up:
TIDA International Bathroom of the Year
Leonie Hamill, Cube Dentro – Auckland
Like many powder rooms, this one is in a potentially highly visible position – in this case, near the home’s front entrance
This has been addressed by installing a cavity slider door, with the exterior stained to match the surrounding timber – resulting in the powder room entrance being hardly noticeable.
On the inside, the door is covered in the same large format ceramic tiles that fully clad the walls and floor, creating a sense of enclosure when the door is shut and the powder room is occupied.
Judges' comments:
Smart use of a small space.
Simple and elegant with creative details. The sliding door is fantastic and perfectly disguises the room.

TIDA International Bathroom of the Year
Reisa Pollard, Beyond Beige – North Vancouver
To address an existing awkward layout the vanity was moved to the opposite side of the room and the tub relocated to be centred on the window.
The biggest challenge was installing the geometric pattern on the floor – it took three different installers to perfect the installation as each slab was custom cut to a specific size.

Finalist:
TIDA International Bathroom of the Year
Desyn Homes – Adelaide
This bathroom addition to a 1927 home provides a remarkable 180° view of the property's established garden – with privacy provided by one-way reflective glass installed in the steel window frames.
But there is equal drama within the bathroom itself, where a custom, formed concrete bath in a stunning black finish takes centre stage.

TIDA International Bathroom of the Year
Jennifer Gilmer Kitchen and Bath – Chevy Chase
The goal to revamping this 1990s bathroom was to simplify and open up the space and to give it a spa-like feel.
A freestanding tub, centred under the window has become the new focal point, while light blue floating cabinets mirror each other, separating his from her vanity.
