Winner:
TIDA International Kitchen of the Year
TIDA New Zealand Kitchen of the Year
Studio2 Architects, Auckland
Everything about this kitchen in a multi-generational, family retreat puts it firmly at the centre of activity. The gabled architecture of the space is designed to make the most of views in two directions, while also providing as much privacy as possible from neighbours.
Judges' comment:
The proportions in this kitchen were very well attended to, and the long island is a great centrepiece in the space.
Inspired details include the clever leg supports for the countertop and the playful custom designed circular hardware on the tall cabinets.
The lighting plan is spare but effective, including the feature fixtures over the island.

Winner:
TIDA Australia Kitchen of the Year
Craig Steere Architects, Perth
The scullery in this family home isn’t hidden away – instead it takes on a multi-functional role right in the middle of the open-plan living area.
Judges' comments:
There are hidden gems in this kitchen, including the tall window that overlooks the back hall and staircase. This detail allows the teak structure to float in the space. T
he kitchen’s asymmetry is cleverly designed and the teakwood element on the back panel of the sculptural island ties-in nicely.
The proportions here really make the design – nothing is formulaic.

Apart from the tell-tale ovens, this kitchen could be an abstract composition of pleasing materials and forms. But when it comes to mealtime or an indoor or outdoor gathering, the functional layout of main and ancillary spaces shines.

Finalist:
MyStyle Homes, Cairns / Kim Duffin Design, Brisbane
This expansive home is located high above tropical Cairns with panoramic views of heritage listed rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
